More Than a Rachel

"The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”
— 1 Samuel 16:7 (NIV)
Leah’s world was defined by a single, painful word: overlooked.
Her sister, Rachel, was the one everyone saw. The one with the beautiful face and the captivating smile. Leah, meanwhile, felt like a footnote in her own story, the older sister who couldn’t measure up. She lived in the shadow of comparison, her worth dictated by someone else’s glow.
But God’s story has a way of flipping the script. While the world was busy celebrating Rachel, God was writing a profound legacy through Leah.
He saw her, not as a lesser version of her sister, but as a vital part of His plan. It was through Leah—the one deemed unloved—that the lineage of Judah, and ultimately Jesus Himself, would come. Her life was a central thread in the tapestry of redemption.
God saw Leah’s true value when no one else did. And He sees yours, too.
HOW ABOUT YOU?
Do you ever feel like you’re living in someone else’s shadow? Maybe your friend got the promotion, the proposal, or the picture-perfect life, and you’re left feeling ordinary. It’s easy to believe the lie that you are less-than. But God’s economy is different. Your worth was settled on the cross, not on a stage. You are not a background character in someone else’s story. In God’s eyes, you are the lead character in the beautiful, one-of-a-kind story He is writing with your life.
PRAYER:
God, when I feel overlooked and invisible, remind me that I am fully seen and fully known by You. Help me to trade the pain of comparison for the peace of being Your chosen daughter. Show me the unique purpose You have for my life, and help me to walk in it with confidence. Amen.
