How to Stay Patient When You’re Waiting for God’s Timing

“Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for Him.”
— Psalm 37:7 (NIV)
Mia thought she was doing pretty well at “waiting on God”… until the waiting actually started feeling long.
At first, she was hopeful. She journaled. She prayed. She told herself, “God’s timing is perfect.”
But as the months went on, the quiet got louder. Nothing was moving. Nothing was shifting. It felt like God was answering everyone except her.
One night, after another job rejection, she found herself sitting in her parked car, forehead on the steering wheel, just whispering,
“Lord… I’m trying, but I’m getting tired.”
Later that week, she visited her grandmother, the one person who always had a calm answer for everything.
Mia didn’t even explain the whole situation; she just said, “I’m waiting, and it feels like nothing’s happening.”
Her grandmother smiled softly and handed her a half-grown plant by the window.
“This one took almost a year to sprout,” she said. “I watered dirt for months. Didn’t look like anything was happening. But under the surface, everything was happening.”
She looked at Mia and added,
“God works underground before He works in your timeline.”
And somehow, that made the waiting feel a little less like punishment… and more like preparation.
HOW ABOUT YOU?
Are you in a season where it feels like God is taking His time, maybe too much time?
Maybe you’re not seeing the progress you hoped for, the relationship you prayed about, the breakthrough you’ve been waiting on.
Just because you can’t see movement doesn’t mean God isn’t moving.
Waiting isn’t wasted. Slow isn’t stopped.
And sometimes God’s silence is actually Him building something for you that needs a little more time.
What if the delay is protecting you?
What if the wait is strengthening you?
What if the timing you want isn’t the timing you need?
PRAYER:
Lord, help me trust Your timing even when it feels slow or confusing.
Teach me to be patient, to stay faithful, and to believe that You’re working behind the scenes.
Give me peace in the waiting and confidence in Your plan.
I know You’re never late. Help my heart rest in that truth.
Amen.
