"But let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream!"

Amos 5:24 (NIV)

In a time when women's voices were often sidelined, Deborah's wisdom and connection with God made her impossible to ignore. She held court under a palm tree, where people actively sought her judgment and leadership.

When Israel faced brutal oppression, God spoke through her to command Barak to raise an army. But Barak hesitated, his courage faltering. "I'll only go if you go with me," he told her.

Deborah didn't apologize for her gifting or downplay her authority. She agreed to go, but she spoke the truth. The honor of victory would not be his, because God would use a woman to complete the deliverance.

She walked onto the battlefield not as a warrior, but as the Lord's presence and word made visible. Her confidence wasn't in her own strength, but in the God who had called her. And just as she declared, the enemy general ultimately fell by the hand of another woman, Jael, completing the victory God had promised through Deborah.

HOW ABOUT YOU?

Do you ever find yourself in a space where you feel God has placed wisdom in you, but speaking up feels intimidating? Deborah's story reminds us that God's calling is your permission slip. Your voice, your discernment, your leadership is needed. You don't have to adopt a masculine model of authority. You can lead with the unique strength, wisdom, and collaborative spirit God has given you. Will you, like Deborah, choose to step into the space God has opened for you, trusting that His presence goes with you?

PRAYER:

Lord, give me Deborah's courage and clarity. In places where I feel out of place or unheard, remind me that my authority comes from You. Help me to lead with wisdom, to speak Your truth with love, and to trust that You will fulfill Your purpose through my faithful obedience. Amen.
